Door plate

This wrought iron door plate is from the Hammermen's Chapel in Edinburgh. It is dated 1694.

The door is cut with the letter 'D' - which may stand for 'deacon' - and the initials 'WB' and 'MH'.

The chapel of St Mary Magdalene in Edinburgh's Cowgate was founded for the Hammermen in the first half of the 16th century. It still exists.
