Add to album

This iron door knocker is from Hope House in Edinburgh.

The knocker is in the shape of a lion's head holding a wrought iron ring in its mouth.

In the Edinburgh town house from the 16th century onwards, the wealthy merchants and burgesses were able to afford doors with locks and door knockers. Visitors were expected to knock to gain entry.
