Measure, for Scots pint

This pewter measure for a Scots pint dates from the late 17th century. A Scots pint was the equivalent of three imperial pints.

The lid is marked with the initials 'IF' and 'MD', while the handle has the maker's thistle mark.

Pewter was commonly used for measures and drinking vessels as it was both fairly cheap and strong enough to stand up to to the rigours of tavern life.
