Silk banner of the Midlothian Brotherly Society

This silk banner is of the Midlothian Brotherly Society which was founded in 1798 to provide death benefits and insurance against unemployment caused by ill health.

This society was founded in a period of growing instability and provided a measure of mutual welfare support when no other support existed.
