Flag, of Weavers of Yetholm, Roxburghshire

This silk flag of the Weavers of Yetholm in Roxburghshire is dated 1779. At the top is a crown and the royal monogram G.R.III (for King George III), the motto 'INDUSTRIA DETAT' and a wheat sheaf. Near the bottom there is the inscription 'MENS DAYS ARE SWIFTER THEN A VEAVERS SHUTTLE'.

The Weavers were the most numerous craft in Yetholm in the late 18th century, there being 35 out of a total population of just over 1000 in 1797.
