Banner, known as Thistle banner

This silk flag, known as the 'Thistle banner', has a central crowned thistle and the motto 'NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSET' (No-one shall hurt me with impunity). In one corner is a blue saltire, in the other three, thistles. The flag is dated 1716.
