A guidon is a type of forked flag. This guidon is of the regiment of horse raised by Henry Erskine, Lord Cardross, in 1688 and disbanded in 1690. It bears the Cardross crest and the motto 'FORTITUDINE'.

The regiment was one of several raised at this time in Scotland by the new administration of William and Mary to counter the threat raised by the Jacobite forces of the exiled king, James VII (II of England).
