Bullet made from a pebble
Add to album

This bullet was found below the cliff at Tantallon Castle in East Lothian. It dates from the 16th century.

The bullet consists of a pebble coated in lead.

Dating from the mid-14th century, Tantallon Castle may have been built by William, 1st Earl of Douglas. It was strengthened in the 1530s by James V, but was largely destroyed in 1651 by a besieging Cromwellian army led by General Monk.
