This wooden walking stick with an ivory disc on the top engraved 'NG', is said to have been used by Niel Gow.

Walking-stick of smooth, polished, light brown wood with a flat ivory disc, engraved NG, mounted on the top, used by Niel[sic] Gow, 1727 - 1807

Gow, (1727-1807), was a gifted fiddler who earned his living from music and did much to preserve and promote traditional Scottish music. He and his son, Nathaniel became more well known on the publication of their 'Collection of Strathspey Reels' in 1784.
