Buckles
Add to album

These buckles and portions of buckles were found at Crossraguel Abbey near Maybole in Ayrshire. They are made from brass or copper and date from the 15th or 16th century.

Many of the buckles are of double form with a central bar on which a pin is swivelled.

Crossraguel Abbey was founded in the early 13th century as a house of Cluniac monks. Most of the original buildings were replaced in the 14th and 15th centuries. The abbey buildings are now in the care of Historic Scotland.
