Firescreen panel
A firescreen panel was used to protect the complexion from the direct heat of a fire. This wool and cotton example dates from the early 19th century.
The shield-shaped panel is decorated with glass and metal beads, backed with cream silk and edged with a cream silk cord, fringe and two tassels.
