This iron coin die is for striking the obverse of Charles II bawbees. It was made at the Scottish Mint in Edinburgh between 1660 and 1685.
The die has a bust of Charles II crowned with laurel leaves. The inscription reads 'Charles II, by the Grace of God, King of Scots, England, Ireland, France and Ireland'.
The name 'bawbee' is derived from 'Sillebawby' - Alexander Orrok of Sillebawby was Master of the Mint in the mid 16th century.
