Lock of hair, of Dr Thomas Chalmers

This lock of hair is of Dr Thomas Chalmers who, in the Disruption of 1843, led a third of the ministers out of the established church to form the Free Church of Scotland. He became the new church's first moderator.

Lock of Dr Chalmers' hair

Chalmers (1780-1847), was a charismatic church leader and evangelical who worked mainly in densely populated parishes in Edinburgh and Glasgow. He called for the provision of education and support for the growing population of urban poor.
