Bust, probably of Prince Charles Edward Stewart

This wax bust is probably of Prince Charles Edward Stewart. It dates from the 18th century.

The bust shows the Prince dressed in a brown coat, waistcoat and plaid.

Charles had come from France to launch a rebellion to overthrow the ruling Hanoverian dynasty in Britain and win the British throne for his father, James. After initial success, the rebellion ended in disaster at Culloden in April 1746.
