Locket associated with Charles I

This silver locket commemorates Charles I. It dates from around 1650.

The front of the heart-shaped locket is engraved with the letters 'CR' (for 'Carolus Rex') beneath a crudely executed crown. The locket has a suspension loop attached.

After the execution of Charles I, many pieces of jewellery were produced to commemorate the 'Martyr King' and to foster allegiance to the Stewart cause.
