Electrotype copy of a gold ring brooch known as the Kames Brooch

This is an electrotype of the front and back of a gold ring brooch known as the 'Kames Brooch' which is associated with the Bute Mazer. The brooch dates from around 1300.

The brooch is decorated with wyverns. The Latin inscription on the back translates as 'Jesus of Nazareth, crucified, King of the Jews. The brooch also has the names of two of the Magi (Jasper and Melchior) and one of the Fates (Atropa).
