Brooch, of 'Art Nouveau' style
Add to album

This silver brooch, set with polished stones, is of 'Art Nouveau' style. The design was registered in 1875.

The oblong bar is separate and slots through the brooch's raised centre. The steel horizontal pin for fixing the brooch is at the back.

Scotland has rich sources of agates, jaspers, bloodstones, cairngorms and granites all popular in 19th-century jewellery. Queen Victoria's love of the Highlands and interest in Scottish traditions helped foster the popularity of 'Scotch pebble' jewellery.
