Ring brooch

A ring brooch is a simple ring of brass, bronze or silver with a free swivelling pin. This silver example, dated 1777, was given to Sarah Livingstone for her nursing services towards to the fifth son of Sir Colin Campbell.

The brooch is inlaid with niello and anchor patterns. The back is inscribed, 'For nursing Colin Campbell Mellords fourth son Ap, 1777. Sarah Livingston.'

Sir Colin Campbell (1776-1847) served in the Peninsular War, was present at Waterloo and became Governor of Ceylon.
