Brooch

This silver ring brooch dates from the 15th century. It would have been used by both men and women to fasten undergarments, tunics or cloaks.

The brooch is decorated with rosettes.

Wearing jewellery such as ring brooches and finger rings was a way of demonstrating wealth and power. Such jewellery often carried inscriptions summoning the protection of Christ or other Biblical and mythical figures.
