Locket associated with Mary, Queen of Scots

The cameo portrait of Mary, Queen of Scots in this gold locket is one of several known to survive. The cameos were probably commissioned by Mary from France or Italy for distribution to supporters. The locket was made by a Scottish goldsmith.

The heart-shaped locket incorporates diamonds and a ruby as well as the cameo portrait of Mary.
