Neck slide of gold and crystal
Add to album

A neck slide was worn over a ribbon at the neck. This example is made of gold and dates from after 1715.

The neck slide has a crystal covering with hair inserted underneath. The slide is decorated in gold wire with 'IR (for Iacobus Rex [King James VIII]) God Save The King'.

The self-styled James VIII (1688-1766), 'the Old Pretender', was son of the deposed King James VII.
