Mug

This silver mug was made by the Inverness silversmith John Baillie. It dates from around 1740.

One of a pair of silver mugs by John Baillie, Inverness, c. 1740

Inverness craftsmen used a variety of town marks including simple contractions such as INS or INVS. From the mid 18th century the mark of a camel starts to appear. The camel was taken from the town coat of arms.
