This silver sugar basin was made in 1879-80 by S. Gordon Guild, a silversmith in Edinburgh. It is part of a three-piece tea set.

The sugar basin is circular with straight sides and is gilded inside. The body of the basin is divided into six panels. The decoration in the panels includes a Chinaman in a garden, a diving bird, a Chinaman beside a pagoda and a bird standing on one leg
