Thistle cup made in Edinburgh, 1703-04

This silver thistle cup was made in 1703-4 by George Scott, a silversmith in Edinburgh. Thistle cups were so-called because of their shape and were unique to Scotland.

The cup has a plain moulded band round the body and is engraved with a shield enclosing 'A G E F'.
