Coffee pot and hot milk jug, made in Edinburgh

This silver coffee pot and hot milk jug were made in 1713-4 by Edinburgh silversmith Colin MacKenzie. The pot is the earliest known Scottish example of a coffee pot.

The coffee pot has a straight tapering octagonal body while the jug has an octagonal flattened baluster-shaped body. Both the jug and pot have a hinged domed lid and are engraved with the arms of Baillie of Jerviswood and Mellerstain.

Colin MacKenzie was an important and prolific silversmith. There are about 30 known written accounts for his works still in existence including the one for this coffee pot and milk jug which was made out to Lady Grisell Baillie.
