Silver cup made in Edinburgh
Add to album

This is the front of a silver cup, made by Marshall and Sons in Edinburgh, and presented to the Reverend John Burns in 1827 by the members of St Andrews Church in Montreal in Canada.

The cup is gilded inside. It is engraved on the front with 'Presented by the members of St Andrews Church, Montreal, to the Revd John Burns (lately their pastor) in token of their esteem and in testimony of their gratitude 3rd Augt 1827'.

Montreal was a flourishing fur trade centre. Due to the number of Scots living there, a Presbyterian Church was established in the early 1780s.
