Water urn, made in Edinburgh
Add to album

This silver water urn was made by the Edinburgh goldsmiths McHattie & Fenwick in 1804.

The urn is of a plain globular shape with ropework decoration. It is inscribed 'To John Young of Bellwood'.

The inscription refers to the part played by John Young of Bellwood (near Perth) in extending the London to Edinburgh mail coach service. In 1786 it was extended to Aberdeen, and in 1811 to Inverness.
