Sauce or brandy pan, associated with Sir Walter Scott

This silver sauce or brandy pan was used as a pap cup to feed Walter Scott (1771-1832) when a baby. It was made in 1757-8 by Aymé Videau of London.

Silver pap or feeding cup made by Ayme Videau, London, 1757 - 1758, used by Sir Walter Scott when a baby and presented by his mother to a Mrs Mackenzie

Scott's historical novels, based on religious and political conflict and clashes between Scots and English, Highland and Lowland, astutely explained Scottish character and culture, and encouraged an heroic view of Scotland's past.
