Add to album

This detail shows the hilt and part of the blade of a two-handed sword which dates from between the late 16th and early 17th century. The sword is part of a collection of weapons from the family armoury of the Lairds of Grant who were based in Speyside.

The sword is of Lowland type and has a hand guard formed in the shape of two up-curved clam shells.

The weapon collection of the Lairds of Grant, later Earls of Seafield, includes pistols, field guns, swords, targes, armour and a fine collection of long guns.
