Powder-horn

This richly decorated powder-horn, made from a cow's horn, is probably from the north-east of Scotland. It dates from 1688.

The horn is decorated in a simplified Highland style which shows the influence of Lowland work. It is carved with its owner's initials 'L MP' and dated 1688.
