Dagger

This Highland dagger knife with wooden hilt is known as an 'Oxter' knife. It dates from the early 18th century and was found at Culloden near Inverness.

The wooden hilt is carved in a basket weave pattern.

Highland daggers or 'dirks' had many uses. They were used for domestic purposes as well as weapons.
