Pieces of silver jewellery
Add to album

These items - a piece of a brooch, a pendant cross, a mount and pieces of a chain - were part of a hoard of coins and jewellery discovered in 1878 under the floor of the 'Traveller's Rest' public house in Dumfries. All four items are made of silver.

Part of a silver brooch, part of the contents of a purse found in the wall of an old house in Dumfries, Dumfries-shire, possibly 14th century

The hoard was hidden in about 1320 and included over 200 coins, mainly English pennies. The silver jewellery was probably kept for its bullion value.
