Add to album

This fragment of a silver brooch was part of a hoard found in 1878 under the floor of 'The Traveller's Rest' public house in Dumfries. The hoard was hidden around 1320.

Silver brooch, part of the contents of a purse found in the wall of an old house in Dumfries, Dumfries-shire, possibly 14th century

The hoard at the Traveller's Rest included over 200 coins, mainly English silver pennies. The jewellery too is made of silver and was probably kept for its bullion value.
