Window shutters and frame

These oak window shutters and frame are from an old house in Water Lane in Leith. The house was for a long time mistakenly believed to belong to Mary of Guise. They date from the 17th century.

Oak window frame and shutters, from an old house in the Cowgate, Edinburgh, known as the French Ambassador's house, 17th century

Mary of Guise (1515-1560) was the wife of James V and the mother of Mary Queen of Scots. She acted as Governor from 1554 but her pro-French policy resulted in rebellion by Protestant nobles in 1559.
