Communion cup, made in Edinburgh

This is one of a pair of communion cups from the parish of Farr in Sutherland. Dated 1741-2, the cups were made by Ebenezer Oliphant, an Edinburgh silversmith.

Ebenezer Oliphant was a strong Jacobite, although in 1741 he gave his signature to an Oath of Allegiance to George II. He managed to escape any government punishment after the 1745 rising and his business prospered.
