Communion bread plate
Add to album

This pewter communion bread plate is from Keig Parish Church in Aberdeenshire. It dates from 1671 and has the maker's touch of George Rose, a pewterer in Aberdeen. Scottish pewter from the 17th century is extremely rare.

The plate is engraved with a Latin inscription: 'Hoc est corpus meum' [Here is my body]. It also bears the date, 1671, the maker's touch and the letters 'GR', probably for George Rose.
