Communion bread plate

This pewter communion plate is from Garvald in East Lothian. It has makers' marks for Richard White and D. Cormack of Edinburgh.

The flat rim of the plate is engraved with the inscription: 'Free Church of Scotland, Garvald 1843'. There is a single groove around the face.

In the Disruption of 1843, a third of Church of Scotland ministers broke from the established church to form the Free Church of Scotland.
