This pewter communion cup is from Newlands Relief Kirk in Peeblesshire. It dates from 1795.

The bowl of the cup is almost straight-sided. The inscription reads 'Newlands Relief Kirk 1795'.

In the 18th century many congregations broke away from the established church on points of principle, mainly concerning choice and appointment of ministers. One of the earliest succession groupings was the Relief Church, founded in 1761.
