Moulds for communion tokens

These two halves of brass moulds for communion tokens are from Slamannan Church in West Lothian and Pitroddie Church in Aberdeenshire. They date from 1746 and 1791 respectively.

The mould on top is engraved with the letters 'SK' for 'Slamannan Kirk'. The one underneath is inscribed, 'This do in remembrance of me, Luke 22. 19'.

Communion tokens were given out by church elders in the days of preparation before the communion service. Those deemed to be sinners were refused tokens and excluded from communion.
