Collection plate

This brass collection plate has a relief image of the temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. It dates from the 18th century.

Brass collecting-plate, with Adam and Eve in relief

The collection plate was often placed at the door of the church with the elders looking on as the congregation made their offerings on the way in or out. The collections were used to support the poor and the minister.
