This is a wrought iron bracket for a baptismal basin. It dates from the 18th century.

Wrought-iron bracket for a baptismal basin

After the Reformation, baptism was performed publicly in the body of the kirk and before the congregation. A bracket was fixed to the side of the pulpit to hold the baptismal basin.
