Collection plate

This church collection plate dates from the late 18th century. It is made of pewter.

Church collection plate of pewter with small marks on shields, a thistle, an expanded rose, lion rampant and initials "W B" and "B.B.", 18th century type

The collection plate was often placed at the door of the church with the elders looking on as the congregation made their offerings on the way in or out. The collections were used to support the poor and the minister.
