Figure, of Christ

This 13th-century bronze figure of Christ originally formed part of an altar or crucifix to which it was fixed by nails through the hands and a tang at the back of the feet. It was possibly made in Germany, and is said to have been found on Islay in the Inner Hebrides.

The figure has long hair and a beard and is dressed in a loin cloth decorated with zigzag lines and a long tied 'belt'. The garment may once have been decorated with enamel.
