Plate

This wooden plate or platter was used in an 18th century household. In many cases one plate would have been shared by all the family members at meal times.

Wooden platter

While the prosperity created by the changes in agriculture and trade between 1760 and 1790 did begin to spread to humbler levels of society, material possessions of ordinary people remained few and changed little in design from earlier periods.
