Pipe Major William Ross and his mother recall musical life in Glen Strathfarrar in the late 19th century.

Pipe Major William Ross (1879 - 1966) was perhaps the pre-eminent piper of his generation. Having joined the Scots Guards and served in the Boer War, he rose through the military ranks to become head of the School of Piping established by the Army and the Piobaireachd Society in Edinburgh Castle. He influenced many hundreds of pipers through his masterly playing, his rigorous teaching, and his published music collections. He also made many recordings.
