Set of Highland bagpipes with two tenor drones in a single stock

A set of Highland bagpipes with chanter, blow-pipe and three drones. The two tenors are in a single stock carved from the solid and decorated with bone insets. The third drone is in its own stock, turned with beading and combing, and mounted with a horn ferrule. The chanter, mounted with bone top and sole, has been repaired over the 'B' hole with two collars of sheet metal (one over the other).

The three drone joints match, one tenor bottom joint is a more recent replacement and they are mounted mainly with horn. The blowstick is plain turned with horn mouthpiece and bone mount. The bag cover is of blue green wool tartan fringed at the end and round the stocks. The arrangement of the tenor drones is a single stock is unusual but would help keep the bag airtight.

The pipes belonged to the Macdonalds of Islay and were long in the possession of the MacIndeors or Dewars, hereditary pipers to the Macdonalds of Islay.
