Tenor drone probably for a set of Lowland bagpipes
Add to album

Tenor drone with bone and horn mounts, made by William Mark of Aberdeen in the late 18th century.

The size, shape and style of this tenor drone suggests that it was made for a set of Lowland bellows-blown bagpipes in which the drones, two tenors and a bass, were set in a common stock.

William Mark was a turned in Aberdeen and is known to have made bagpipes. There is a spinning wheel by William Mark in the collections of the National Museums of Scotland (T.1967.39).
