Small card box used to post a set of drones reeds and various other items relating to the Highland bagpipe

Small rectangular card box with a brown lid and metal corners which was used to send a set of drones through the post. The box is addressed to 'Pipe Major Ronald Mackenzie, Gordon Castle, Fochabers' and is postmarked and stamped with a Edward VII one penny stamp, circa 1908.

The box contains a black japanned safety pin used for attaching silk ribbon to Highland bagpipe drones, a stick of red sealing wax used for closing the ends of bagpipe drone reeds, a small strip of sandpaper for adjusting the tuning of Highland bagpipe chanter reeds and a selection of bass drone reeds, tenor drone reeds and chanter reeds.

This item was purchased by the National Museums of Scotland in 1988, along with a set of bagpipes that belonged to John Bàn Mackenzie, from the grandson of John R. Mackenzie of the Liverpool Scottish, who was the son of Pipe Major Ronald Mackenzie.
