Highland bagpipe music catalogue

Publisher's catalogue of the 1930s listing Highland bagpipe music issued by Paterson's Publications Ltd, of Glasgow, Edinburgh and London. The early books of printed bagpipe music were printed and published in small runs by individuals, often bagpipe makers such as Donald MacDonald, William Gunn and David Glen, but as the market for printed music expanded in the late 19th and 20th centuries, specialist firms of music publishers such as Paterson, Sons and Co. of Glasgow came to dominate the supply.

The cover artwork, by the military artist, A.E. Haswell Miller, is based on R.R. McIan's 'MacCrimmon Piper' playing a salute to his Chieftain, MacLeod of Dunvegan, approaching in his Birlinn as 'one of the plates included in R.R. McIan and James Logan 'The Clans of the Scottish Highlands' Volume 2, London 1847. The artist has carefully adapted the original portrait by giving the piper a three drone war pipe.
