Cette peinture montre ses efforts pour retenir l'étendard français dans un langage direct: 'Je lui (le porteur de l'étendard) ai tranché la tête...un de ses lanceurs jeta sa lance vers moi mais me manqua...Je l'ai tranché du menton jusqu'au haut de la tête'.
